Handling Your Fireplace

You should consider safety in handling wood burning fireplaces in your home. When your wood burning fireplace is active, you should use protective clothing in reloading its fuel source. Also, it is wanted that you install some protective covering like a screens or filters to prevent sparks and ashes from entering your home. And always keep your children away from the flame and the hot surface of the fireplace as they may accidentally get burned due to carelessness.
You should have a place to stock your firewood. It is suggested that you build a cage for your pile of wood so they will be organized and the cage can be roofless to let the heat of the sun continuously dry them. Check if the cage is prone to getting wet as you will surely not want to get your wood soaked in any liquid because they will be useless at that time.
If you have wood burning stoves, you should maintain a sanitary environment around it because it is where your food is prepared. Clean your wood burning stoves regularly and remove all the debris from burnt wood. Brush the wood burning stoves whenever necessary to prevent any kind of dirt from sticking into it.
Your wood burning fireplace and stove should be regularly checked by for degradation and deterioration as a form of preventive maintenance. Working on a damaged fireplace or stove is prone to accidents and to greater damage. Replace any damaged part of the fireplace or stove immediately to prevent serious damages or injuries from occurring.
