You should have a place to stock your firewood. It is suggested that you build a cage for your pile of wood so they will be organized and the cage can be roofless to let the heat of the sun continuously dry them. Check if the cage is prone to getting wet as you will surely not want to get your wood soaked in any liquid because they will be useless at that time.

If you have wood burning stoves, you should maintain a sanitary environment around it because it is where your food is prepared. Clean your wood burning stoves regularly and remove all the debris from burnt wood. Brush the wood burning stoves whenever necessary to prevent any kind of dirt from sticking into it.

Your wood burning fireplace and stove should be regularly checked by for degradation and deterioration as a form of preventive maintenance. Working on a damaged fireplace or stove is prone to accidents and to greater damage.
